Welcome to my website
Julie has been involved in horse racing for all of her life, in fact it could be said that she was born into racing. Her grandfather was the well respected Charlie Hall who trained at Towton not too far from Wetherby where his memorial race is run every year. She started riding out for her own father the successful trainer Maurice from the age of 11 and as she grew so did her responsibilities within the yard until at the age of 33 in 1999 she took on the license herself to continue the family tradition. Maurice who had succeeded his stepfather as trainer from his Towton base moved his string to Star Cottage in Malton in 1981 and it is from here that Julie now trains assisted by her husband Steve whom she married in 1998.
Steve himself is from a non-racing background but has worked in racing mainly in the Malton area since the age of 16. He spent a two year stint as pupil assistant to the top class Newmarket trainer Luca Cumani which he considers to be a hugely enjoyable and enlightening time in his career in racing.
Together Julie and Steve strive to provide the possible service and environment for their owners and horses combining some old fashioned standards to modern day methods to achieve and maximise the best possible results from the horses in their care.
The yard has a relaxed feel, horses are exercised at the famous Langton Wold public gallops with each lot taking around one hour twenty five minutes and this combined with plenty of turnout for the horses enables Julie to keep her horses sweet and happy. Horse welfare is of paramount importance, every effort is taken to keep the horses sound and healthy which therefore will increase the chances of any horse developing to it's full potential. Our team of staff to achieve this is headed by Brian Hunter(more of him later) the Minister Vets one of the leaders in there field and Gemma Walker our physio whom attends the yard on a weekly basis providing valuable input. Julie and Steve are both proud and privileged to count many of their current owners as friends having developed a good working relationship with them over the years. We encourage them to visit as often as possible and indeed apart from two Sundays a month which they take off to spend with their delightful daughters Samantha aged thirteen and Stephanie aged eight they run an open house policy with a warm welcome guaranteed. Our owners are kept fully informed of their horses well being and any potential plans with weekly phone calls or emails if preferred. As an added bonus for our owners this season we have started doing video clips of the horses working which can then be emailed to them so they are fully up to speed with events.
